David W. Archer has been teaching tennis for forty-four years. His dad was a high school tennis coach for twenty-five years, and also taught all the recreational tennis classes in East San Jose, California. David began to help his dad with teaching the recreation classes when he was only thirteen. It was the era when Jimmy Connors was dating Chrissie Evert and everyone played tennis. David was ranked as a junior in the USTA Northern California section from 1972 to 1978. He played #1 singles and doubles for every team he ever played on, says his dad, now eighty-eight years old and living in San Antonio, Texas. From 1986 to 1990, David travelled extensively for John Gardiner’s
Tennis Ranches, helping open up new facilities. It was in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, that he was Harrison Ford’s personal tennis pro in 1988. From 1990 to 2010, David ran and directed programs at Chico Parks and Recreation and Chico Racquet Club and Resort. He was the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach at Butte Community College (famed quarterback Aaron Rogers alma mater), director of Tennis-Oro-West Racquet and Health Club in Oroville, California, and Butte Creek Golf and Tennis Club Chico, California. In 2010, David moved to Austin, Texas, with his family and nationally ranked son Justin David Archer and became one of the top 4 pro’s at the Hills Country Club, better known as the World of Tennis, Austin, Texas. In 2013, he became the director of junior development at Countryside Country Club in Clearwater, Florida; the Director of Junior Development at the Tennis Connection, Tampa, Florida, in 2014; the Director of Schools programs and Red Ball programs at the famous Giammalva Tennis Club in Houston/Spring Texas in 2016 to 2017.
